How an X Flows — Start to Finish
As a leader you wear two hats: you run your own X, and you steer your team's. Here's the cycle at a glance — each stage opens, everyone takes action, then it locks. Use this as your map; the sections below explain each step in detail.
1
X Setting
Open → Locked
You'll receive an email when the X setting period opens. While it's open, create and edit your own X freely, and review your team's Xs as they set them. Once the period closes, goals lock for the cycle.
↺
Review & comment on your team — any time
At any point — during or after goal setting — you can review any team member's X and leave a comment. They're notified, their X reopens for editing, and they respond and resubmit.
↓
2
Active Cycle
Locked
Your X and your team's are locked and live. Everyone's working toward their goals — nothing required day-to-day until a checkpoint opens [Trajectory Update Point].
↓
3
Trajectory Update Points
Open → Submit → Locked → Compare
At set points in the cycle, the submission window opens and everyone's notified by email. Submit your own update against your X, and review your team's updates as they come in. Once submissions are locked, results compare across the team. This repeats for each Trajectory Update Point in the cycle.

4
End of Cycle
Open → Rate → Locked → Compare
The submission window opens and everyone's notified by email. Everyone self-rates their own X from −2 to +2 and documents their final X outcome summary — including you. Once submissions are locked and the cycle closes, the end-of-cycle team comparison unlocks.

Leader Dashboard — Your Main Navigation Hub
What You See
- View My X: Your own X (you participate as a team member)
- View Teams: All team members' X’s and progress
If you're also part of a peer group (e.g. an ELT), you'll additionally see a View Peers option to view your peers' X’s alongside your own.
Remember: As a leader, you have a dual role. You can set your own X and review your team's X. Both are equally important.
3Your Dual Role
Leaders in Elkiem X Tracker have two distinct responsibilities:
As a Participant
- Set your own X goals
- Provide trajectory updates
- View progress relative to peers
- Submit end-of-cycle results
As a Leader
- Review team X’s
- Provide feedback
- Monitor progress
Your X as a Participant
You can see your own X in the "View My X" section. This is where you set your own goals and track your progress — just like your team members.

4Setting Your X (Dominant Goal)
Optional: Not every leader sets an X. If you want one — to participate alongside your team — you have the ability to set one here, but you don’t have to. If you don’t, just skip to managing your team.
Step-by-Step
1
Open the Set Your X Form
Click "Set Your X" from the dashboard or navigation menu.

7Providing Feedback
When reviewing a team member's X, you can provide written feedback directly.
When to Provide Feedback

At any point in the cycle if circumstances change.

8Trajectory Updates
Throughout the cycle, team members provide Trajectory Update Points showing their progress towards their X. As a leader, you can see these updates and monitor progress in real-time.

9End of Cycle Review
At the end of each cycle, every team member self-rates their own X and provides commentary on their achievement. You self-rate your own X the same way — nobody rates anyone else.

This screen shows:
- Goal Cycles — Each column represents a cycle, showing the date range
- Team Members — Every member of your team
- Cycle Scores — Color-coded results for each team member per cycle (-2 to +2 scale)
The score key explains the colour coding:
